We are currently traveling around the US for a year. We have been blessed to see and experience so much beauty in this amazing country. We have also seen many people in the streets facing hardship.
Our hearts were moved to help in any way we can, so we went shopping to buy some basic need items for ten people. We, with our children, assembled what we are calling “Blessing Bags”. We adopted this idea from a time a few years ago when we did something similar with friends back in SC. A blessing bag is basically a large zip lock bag that we fill with items for people living on the streets.
We have added things like:
- New pair of socks
- Rain ponchos
- Emergency Blankets
- Tissues (Pocket size)
- Face/Hands wipes
- Hand Sanitizer
- Tooth paste & Toothbrush
- Bottle of Water
- Small snacks like: raisins, breakfast bars, cheeze-its, gum, etc.
- A New Testament or Gospel of John booklet
Each bag costs about $18-$20 to fill and we have been including a little note of encouragement meant to remind the recipient that their life has purpose and that they are loved beyond measure. We have had a chance to bring a little smile to people’s faces, listen to their stories and pray for them.
Sometimes the need seems so great and what we do so insignificant, but we firmly believe that we have to start somewhere. We want to teach our children that we can give from what we have, whether that means brightening someone's day with a smile, gifting someone our time and our listening ears, a conversation, a reminder that there is hope, that their life matters, a prayer. Of course we also want to help in practical ways as we are able.
Thank you for joining us in our efforts. Right now, creating Blessing Bags is one way to go about it, but we hope it evolves into more. Maybe it will evolve into warm meals, helping someone through their transition out of the street, etc.
We don’t want to put limitations on what the Lord can do through us together! This is why Be Hope Collective exists after all… together and collectively we can make a greater difference in bringing HOPE to one and many.
Profits from your purchases and donations will go to help us spread some love, hope and practical help to people we encounter on the streets.
Thank you, again! May God bless you and yours!
Love, The Garces Family
